Sestina

It was just one of those days
Were all you did was lay in the sun.
We could go on an adventure,
But we decided to just play in the sand.
We would just think and smile,
Because we were part of the forest.

We zip-lined through the forest,
And will always think of those days,
Because all we did was smile.
Some days we would play hide and seek with the sun,
But we always found the sand
At the end of the days adventure.

Every day was certainly an adventure.
Getting lost in the thick forest,
Driving across the soft sand,
Always made for interesting days.
We would enjoy dinner under the sun,
And leave the day with a smile.

“Pura Vida” and a smile,
Made for an everyday adventure.
Remember enjoying a magazine under the bright sun,
hearing the monkeys in the forest
brings me back to the days
the night I took my first steps on Costa Rican sand.

As I walk in the sand,
People always offer up a smile,
I can tell they are enjoying their days
Going on the ultimate adventure
Through the wild forest
Or just basking in the warm sun.

We might have been burnt in the sun,
Scratched by the broken shell sand,
Poked by a branching sticking out in the forest,
Teased by a boa’s smile,
Got lost on some adventure,
But we loved all the Costa Rican days.

The most enchanting sun is captured by the brightest smile.
I dream about the sand and wish to be on another adventure.
I have never been to a forest that made me want to stay for days.

  1. I love the turn that the poem takes in the second to last stanza. Prior, everything is idyllic--perfect and good. I love the tension that comes when you admit that all was not perfect. And I'm especially intrigued by "Teased by a boa's smile."
